When you look for an expert, what do you look for? Of course they have “know their stuff” but it goes deeper than that, right? You want someone who has “been there, done that” and also someone that explain exactly why and how it works at the same time. When it comes to building strength and fitness we don’t just…
Take your own bodyfat with ease
Powerlifters tend not to obsess over their body fat the way some do in the fitness industry, and they certainly don’t have to be as lean as bodybuilders. At the same time, spend enough hours in the gym and you can’t help but to appreciate the time and effort it takes to build a lean physique. In addition, in any…
Want a free shirt?
As a lifter, one of my favorite parts about competing in a powerlifting competition was getting that new meet T-shirt. Particularly if the meet went well or if I set a new PR, it was always fun adding a new T-shirt to the collection. And when you saw other lifters in the gym and around town wearing one of those…
The 2 Most Important Questions
As far as I am concerned, there are 2 crucial questions to ask if you like to workout. What are those questions? I won’t make you wait. The first question is: How does the body work? The second question is: How does the body respond to exercise and how should exercise be set up to elicit the results that one…

My Problem with Steroids
I have a bit of a mixed opinion on steroids. In one sense I generally believe people should be able to do whatever they want as long as they aren’t hurting other people. Even if a certain activity carries a higher level of risk, if an adult wants to engage in it, so be it. I don’t think base jumping…
Powerlifting for Parents
How often might the parent of a teenage boy hear these words: “I would like to be bigger and stronger, so I can..?” If your teenager says that to you, what do you? Maybe their friends have started working out and they feel left behind. Perhaps a coach suggested that they try to get a little bit stronger. It is common for high school coaches of any sport, particularly football, to recommend that their athletes lift weights to help improve their performance. Often the coaches suggest, or sometimes even mandate, that the students participate in powerlifting. The purpose of this article is to assure and inform you the parent of the risks and benefits related to powerlifting.
Should a Strength Coach be Strong?
I see this question pop up every so often in various debates and forums. Should a strength coach be strong? Very simply put: Yes. Please note the use of the word should in the question. Should you practice what you preach and lead by example? Yes. It is ideal for a strength coach to be strong. I can’t see how…

My Experience at the Arnold
The Arnold itself is gigantic fitness event that occurs in Columbus, Ohio, every year. It is usually around the end of February or the beginning of March. The event was originally centered around the Arnold Bodybuilding Championship but now there are so many different fitness events taking place it is tough to say it centered around just one thing. The event has also branched out and the activities are no longer purely meathead focused – you will gymnastics, fencing, painting, jump rope, 5K’s among the other more classic activities which include powerlifting, strongman, armwrestling, Olympic Lifting, CrossFit, and bodybuilding.
